Nursery
Our nursery cares for our young kids while their moms and siblings are in class.
Science & Math
Song, story, chanting and play time incorporate math and science that coincides with the rest of CHD’s course timeline.
History
PreSchool history follows the scope and sequence of the elementary history with the assumption that the students have heard mom reading material aloud to older siblings. No homework is required. In-class projects highlight the topic covered in the scope and sequence for that week. Elementary grades use The Story of the World curriculum in the following sequence:
2022-2023: Volume I: Ancient History
2023-2024: Volume II: Medieval History
2024-2025: Volume III: Early Modern History
2025-2026: Volume IV: Modern History (4th-5th grades) OR World Geography (PreK-3rd grades)
Phonics
This class focuses on learning letter sounds.
Art & Music
Fun, hands-on art and musical activities that are perfect for little ones!
PE
Physical education through games and movement.
KINDERGARTEN – 2ND GRADE COURSES
Kindergarten through 2nd grade does not require formal homework. However, we do assume that children are going through curriculum at home.
Science
Science is sequenced according to Apologia’s course timeline. The students complete science activities on Mondays as they work through the books at home. The sequence of materials is as follows:

History
This course follows the scope and sequence of the elementary history with the assumption that the students have listened to material assigned for that week. Minimal homework is required for these younger grades. In-class projects highlight the topic covered in the scope and sequence for that week. Elementary grades use The Story of the World curriculum in the following sequence:

Writing
Kindergarten – Practice letter formation, listening, narration, listening, and copying. Parents should plan to work through First Language Lessons, Level One from Well Trained Mind during the year.
1st Grade – As parents work through Writing With Ease, Level One and First Language Lessons, Level Two (both from Well Trained Mind) on the schedule prescribed in the scope and sequence, the class will reinforce the at-home learning.
2nd Grade – As parents work through Writing With Ease, Level Two and First Language Lessons, Level Three, first half only, (both from Well Trained Mind) on the schedule prescribed in the scope and sequence, the class will reinforce the at-home learning.
Math
This is math in a playful environment. Children in this class play math games and review math facts.
Art
Fun, hands-on art activities that are perfect for little ones!
Music
Music Theory for first grade uses recorders to apply the fundamentals of music theory. This course continues into second grade.
PE
Physical education through games and movement. Starting at age 6, students will participate in our CHD Strong program.
3RD GRADE – 5TH GRADE COURSES
In 3rd-5th grades, there will be weekly assignments and accountability.

Students use the skills they are learning in Writing class as they work on key word outline for history class too. In-class projects highlight the topic covered in the scope and sequence for that week. Elementary grades use The Story of the World curriculum in the following sequence:

Latin
Latin I – First year Latin class uses Prima Latina as a primary text. Teachers cover the new material in class on Mondays; students practice at home during the week using their notebooks and homework packets.
Latin II – This second year Latin class uses Latina Christiana I as its text. Teachers cover the new material in class on Mondays; students practice at home during the week using their notebooks and homework packets.
Latin III – This third year Latin class uses First Form as its text. Teachers cover the new material in class on Mondays, and students practice at home during the week using their notebooks and homework packets.
Writing
In upper elementary we use IEW to guide our writing program. IEW is cyclical in nature and students will continue to build on their skills, reviewing and adding each year. Each Monday instruction is given in class, introducing and practicing a new concept. Then, during the week, students will practice these new concepts through a writing assignment at home.
3rd Grade – Third grade writing workshop will use IEW (usually in coordination with the history time period of the year) and First Language Lessons, Level 3 (first half of the book) curriculum. Any required literature used in the classroom will be read in the classroom. Any other literature assignments will have the freedom for families to choose their own literature.
4th Grade – Fourth grade writing workshop will use IEW (usually in coordination with the history time period of the year) and First Language Lessons, Level 3 (second half of the book) curriculum. Literature will also be assigned in this class.
5th Grade – Fifth grade writing workshop will use IEW, usually in coordination with the history time period of the year. Literature will also be assigned in this class.
PE

6TH – 8TH GRADE COURSES
Science
Science in the middle school years uses Apologia’s Middle School Science scope and sequence. Homework and labs are intended to be learning activities. As such, both should be completed with the goal of increasing mastery of the subject. Labs will be completed during class time. Completion of lab reports will be done in the course notebook. Students will also participate in our middle school Science Fair in the spring. The following is the sequence of curriculum:

History
Middle School history uses Beautiful Feet Curriculum. Homework is required. In-class work highlights the topic covered in the scope and sequence for that week. The following is the sequence of curriculum:
2022-2023: Ancient History Intermediate
2023-2024: Medieval History Advanced Intermediate and Junior High
2024-2025: Early American and World History Junior High Pack
2025-2026: Modern American and World History
Latin
The Ecce Romani text is an intensive reading approach to Latin learning that begins with the translation of full paragraphs with the goal of allowing students to discover the meanings of words and the rules of grammar inductively. It then provides vocabulary and explanations of grammar in order to give students the tools to translate Latin text deductively. This course provides an intensive and fun way for students to learn about the structure of all language while immersing themselves in the culture, history, and language, which has so greatly influenced their own modern world. Students will be prepared to take the Intro National Latin Exam in March.
6th Grade – This class will most likely finish all of Ecce Romani I, pacing may vary depending on dedication of the students.
7th Grade – This class will begin with the second half of Ecce Romani I (Chapter 22 -27) and then continue in Ecce II (Chapters 28 – 37), Lord willing.
8th Grade – This class will cover as many chapters of Ecce II as possible, hoping to finish.
Writing
6th Grade – This course will cover the first half of The Lost Tools of Writing, Level One during the first semester. They will then use the first half of IEW’s Student Writing Intensive during the second semester. The students will also use Grammar for the Well Trained Mind for their grammar studies. Literature assigned and used in conjunction with history class.
7th Grade – This course will cover the second half of Lost Tools of Writing, Level One during the first semester. Then, they will use the second half of IEW’s Student Writing Intensive during the second semester. The students will also use Grammar for the Well Trained Mind for their grammar studies. Literature assigned and used in conjunction with history class.
Logic
7th Grade – This class will examine fallacious arguments that are all around us from billboards to commercials to our own reasoning! Students will master 28 fallacies (such as begging the question, the straw man, ad hominem, etc). The class will teach students to recognize good reasoning, to argue with clarity, relevance and purpose, and to honor the Lord with their speech.
Art
In this course students will cover a wide variety of artists and explore the mediums they used to create their art and do a variation of one of their artworks. There is no homework in this class.
PE
Physical education through games and movement. Students will participate in our CHD Strong program.
